What color variations are available?

We have two color options: white and silver.

What is the thickness?

The thickness of the film is approximately 0.11mm. The thickness of the membrane material varies by type.
Please feel free to ask us for more details.

What do you mean by radiative cooling?

Radiative cooling is a natural phenomenon where heat from the Earth’s surface is emitted into space, reducing the Earth’s temperature.

What is the difference between thermal insulation and heat shielding material?

Radiative cooling materials not only block and reflect heat but also cool the space it encloses.
For more details, please refer to this page.

Effectiveness and Performance

アイコン

Are there any differences in effectiveness between white and silver?

Both colors have the same effectiveness.

What is the weather resistance?

Based on the xenon weathering test (with UV exposure), the weather resistance is equivalent to 10 years, but it may vary depending on the installed environment.
※It is not a guaranteed value.

What about the cooling performance during winter?

In winter, the temperature difference is not as large as in summer in comparison with ordinary materials because the daylight intensity is smaller and the length of the day is shorter.

However, results will vary depending on the installation environment. Customers concerned about cooling in winter should consider installing the product with removable products (membrane materials and magnetic sheets).

How does the cooling effect fare on cloudy days?

When there are clouds, the infrared radiation from the surface is absorbed by the clouds and partially reflected towards the ground. This hinders the decrease in temperature, making the effect less pronounced compared to sunny days.
However, on cloudy days, there is no issue of material temperature rising, so we believe it does not affect the overall effectiveness throughout the year.

If used indoors, will it have the same effect as when installed outdoors?

To maximize the effect of radiative cooling, we recommend using it in outdoor environments exposed to direct sunlight.
When used indoors, it does not cause radiative cooling, but it does provide heat shielding from sunlight.

Can SPACECOOL® be folded?

We believe folding SPACECOOL® will not affect its radiative cooling performance.
However, there is a possibility of damage and wrinkles occurring at the folded areas, so we recommend using it without folding.

How much energy can it help save?

Experimental data shows that a container house with SPACECOOL® consumes 46% less energy compared to one without SPACECOOL®.
For more details, please refer to this page.

Does cutting SPACECOOL® reduce its effectiveness?

Cutting SPACECOOL® does not diminish its effectiveness.

Does stacking multiple layers of SPACECOOL® affect its effectiveness?

The effectiveness remains the same.

I want to know the exact product specifications.

We have four types, namely film, tarpaulin/canvas, membrane material and magnetic sheet, each with different performance characteristics.

Installation

アイコン

May I cut the purchased product myself?

Yes, you may. All our products can be cut using a box cutter, scissors, or similar tools.

May I replace the applied film?

If the film is applied immediately afterwards, it can be peeled off again. On the other hand, if the film has been applied for a long period of time, there is a possibility that adhesive residue will remain on the surface, just as with general films.

Is it possible to print or apply paint on the film?
Will the paint affect its effectiveness?

Yes, it is possible. However, the effectiveness may be reduced depending on the area covered by the paint or print.

Can the SPACECOOL® film be adhered to any material?

Provided the surface of the material is smooth, the film can be adhered after removing dirt, oil, and grease from the surface. However, the film does not have sufficient adhesive strength for materials that are typically difficult for adhesives to adhere to, such as polycarbonate, polyolefin resin, and silicone or fluorine-based painted surfaces. For detailed information, please refer to the installation manual (“SPACECOOL® Film SCF Series Installation and Maintenance Instructions”).
If you are considering using SPACECOOL® on those materials, please consider using our SPACECOOL® membrane instead.

Can the SPACECOOL® film adhere perfectly to any type of shape?

The film can be applied to flat surfaces, cylindrical surfaces, curved or folded surfaces such as folding panels, and so on. However, since the film does not stretch much, it cannot be applied perfectly to spherical or textured surfaces.

Do I have to hire a specialist to apply the SPACECOOL® film?

The SPACECOOL® film can be easily applied by anyone. However, it is recommended to ask a roofing or exterior wall contractor to apply the film to high places or large areas such as roofs and outside walls. We also recommend that you contact an experienced professional if you are looking for a beautiful finish or if you want to apply the film to an intricate shape.

What are the steps to apply the SPACECOOL® film?

The following steps describe the general procedure for applying the film.
(1) Clean the surface (2) Take measurements (3) Cut the film (4) Partially cut the release paper (5) Position the film (6) Apply the film (7) Edge treatment (8) Stain-proof coating
For more details, please refer to the installation manual (“SPACECOOL® Film SCF Series Installation and Maintenance Instructions”). You can also refer to the installation videos on our YouTube channel.

If there are air bubbles between the film and the base material.

The reverse side (adhesive side) of the SPACECOOL® film is processed with an embossed finish (a microscopic stamping process that allows air to escape). Before the film is firmly adhered, air can be pushed out to the edges using a squeegee. In case it is impossible to push out the air bubbles, use a needle to make a hole where the air is trapped to release the bubbles. To prevent the hole from widening, use sealing tape or caulking compound to seal it.

If wrinkles formed in the film during the application process.

In case wrinkles form during application, do not proceed any further and peel off the film from the base material up to the point where the wrinkles start to appear. The wrinkles are due to the film sticking to itself. Once the film is removed from the base material, and the film is no longer stuck to itself, it can be reapplied back on again.
If the film remains stuck to itself, it will not be possible to re-apply it without wrinkles.
Cut and remove the film up to the point where there are no wrinkles, cut and remove the wrinkled areas from the removed film, and then reapply the non-wrinkled film.

How do I avoid wrinkles when applying the film?

Wrinkles form when the film is not straight when applied. This happens when the force applied to the film is not uniform or when the film is pulled out of shape when removing the liner. We recommend avoiding excessive force when removing the liner before applying the film.

Is it necessary to treat the edges?

Because peeling usually occurs at the edges the film, treating the edges is essential to prolong the life of the SPACECOOL® film.

What is the recommended sealing tape needed for edge treatment and where can I buy it?

First, please inform us of the details through the inquiry form.

When treating the edges, what is the difference between using sealing tape and edgecoat, and how do I know which to use?

Edgecoat is more effective.
In terms of ease of application, sealing tape is generally simpler to apply. However, edgecoat is sometimes simpler to apply than tape if the area to cover is hard to see or difficult to work on.
In some cases, it may be difficult to use sealing tape around a corner or in a stepped area, which is why it is important to judge the suitability of the tape for each location and use it accordingly.

Is it better to use Edge Coat during construction?

By coating the edges of SPACECOOL products with Edge Coat, it can protect them from degradation caused by external contamination, allowing for longer performance. Therefore, we recommend using it. It can also be used for edge treatment to prevent SPACECOOL products from peeling off the target object. Additionally, we offer sales in units of 500g, 1kg, and 5kg. For pricing information, please inquire through this form.

Coating capacity: 1,000m/kg (when applied with a width of 10mm).

What happens if I don’t use a stain-proof coating?

The anti-stain coating is effective in making the surface of SPACECOOL® less susceptible to staining. Since SPACECOOL® works by preventing light from coming through, any stains that completely cover the surface (dirt, mud, or other deposits) will reduce the reflecting and radiating effects of SPACECOOL®. It is recommended to use a stain-resistant coating to prevent staining over the long term.

Is it necessary to clean the surface to which the film will be applied with alcohol?

Alcohol should be used to remove oil and other grime of organic origin.
Please rinse thoroughly with water after using solvents or neutral detergents to avoid residues.

Can I have SPACECOOL® film cut to any size?

We do not offer cut-to-size options.
The SPACECOOL® film can be easily cut using shears or a cutter, so the film can be processed by a local company that offers film cutting services.

Is it possible to apply the film to a flat steel sheet and then bend the sheet?

It varies depending on the processing method.

Does SPACECOOL® contain hazardous substances such as organo-fluorine compounds (PFAS), substances restricted by the European RoHS Directive, or volatile organic compounds (VOC)?

Please be assured that none are included.
