[Japan: Nationwide Average Across 13 Locations] Annual number of days with maximum temperatures of 35°C or higher

In Japan, data from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) shows an increasing trend in extremely hot days (35°C or higher).

Trends in Heatstroke-Related Emergency Ambulance Transports (2008–2025)

According to reported data from the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, the number of emergency ambulance transports due to heat stroke during summer has remained at a high level since 2010, exceeding 100,000 cases in 2025.

SPACECOOL Tent Demonstrates Reduced Heat Load and Improved Thermal Comfort
Under the leadership of Professor Shinji Yoshida’s laboratory at the Department of Housing and Environmental Design, Faculty of Human Life and Environment, Nara Women's University, a collaborative project was conducted with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the World Athletics Foundation to evaluate the effectiveness of SPACECOOL tents in improving outdoor thermal environments.

The results demonstrated, through both quantitative measurements and qualitative assessments, that the SPACECOOL tent reduced heat load and improved thermal comfort compared with conventional tents.

ーKey Findings
• Compared with a conventional tent, the SPACECOOL tent achieved reductions of up to 1.8°C in air temperature, 5.4°C in globe temperature, and 9.4°C in mean radiant temperature (MRT).
• The Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), an indicator of heat stress risk, improved by an average of 1.6 points compared with a conventional tent.
• Participants exhibited lower average skin temperatures and lower-leg temperatures, along with a downward trend in core body temperature (ear temperature).
• User surveys indicated that many participants experienced a cooling effect attributable to radiative cooling and highly rated the tent in terms of comfort, cost-effectiveness, and future application potential.

Case study and results: installation in temporary rest rooms

Comparing a standard temporary rest room with one installed with SPACECOOL showed a temperature reduction of over 10°C in both perceived and interior temperatures.
