SPACECOOL Radiative Cooling Film Certified by Osaka HITEC for Heat Island Mitigation Technology

SPACECOOL INC. is pleased to announce that its radiative cooling film utilizing “SPACECOOL” material has been certified as a heat island mitigation technology under the certification program conducted by the Osaka Heat Island Mitigation Technology Consortium (Osaka HITEC).

The heat island phenomenon occurs when urban areas experience higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas due to factors such as increased buildings and asphalt surfaces, as well as anthropogenic heat emissions. With the impact of climate change, heat island phenomenons are becoming more severe in cities worldwide.

“SPACECOOL,” the radiative cooling material developed and marketed by SPACECOOL INC., is an advanced optical material that enables zero-energy cooling by efficiently reflecting solar heat (~95%) to suppress heat absorption and emitting heat as infrared radiation (~95%) into space, while limiting heat release to the surroundings.

When applied to building rooftops or outdoor infrastructure, SPACECOOL helps suppress indoor temperature increases and contributes to reducing the energy required for air conditioning. In addition to these benefits, the material’s ability to mitigate temperature rises in urban environments, thereby alleviating the heat island phenomenon, has been officially recognized through this certification.

In addition to these functions, its ability to mitigate urban temperature rises thereby alleviate the heat island phenomenon has been formally recognized through this certification.

With this certification, SPACECOOL INC. aims to expand its efforts beyond individual buildings to broader urban-scale heat mitigation initiatives, contributing to the creation of sustainable and comfortable urban environments.

About Osaka HITEC
