SPACECOOL INC. was selected to exhibit at the COP28 Japan Pavilion for the second consecutive year.

SPACECOOL INC. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Takayuki Hoshuyama; hereinafter referred to as “SPACECOOL”), following its participation in COP27 last year, will exhibit at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) scheduled to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 30 (Thu.) to December 12 (Tue.), 2023. The Japan Pavilion, which will be set up by the Ministry of the Environment, will be the venue for the exhibition.

The Japan Pavilion is designed to showcase to the world the products and services that support the realization of Japan’s long-term goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and the world’s efforts to decarbonize or adapt to climate change.

Among the 15 representative products and services selected this year, our radiative cooling material SPACECOOL® (hereinafter referred to as “this material”) was selected as one of the exhibits in the pavilion as an environmental technology that Japan can be proud of.

This material can contribute to both “mitigation” and “adaptation” against climate change by providing zero-energy cooling through the realization of the world’s highest level of radiative cooling performance. Mitigation includes energy conservation in buildings and reduction of cooling energy for power conditioners and storage batteries used in photovoltaic power generation. As an “adaptation,” it can contribute to the prevention of heat stroke and to measures to prevent damage from high temperatures to agricultural and livestock products.

By exhibiting at COP28, we hope to accelerate our efforts with local partners, especially in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other regions in the Middle East and Southeast Asia where heat problems are serious, and contribute to global decarbonization and climate change measures.

About SPACECOOL® Radiative Cooling Material

SPACECOOL® is a new material*¹ that not only blocks heat from sunlight and the atmosphere in direct sunlight and suppresses heat absorption, but also enables temperatures to be lower than the outside temperature with zero energy by releasing heat into space based on the principle of radiative cooling.

Three types of products utilizing this material have already been developed and are sold by us and our partners: film type, membrane material type, and magnet sheet type.

*1: Achieved through a material design that uses Osaka Gas’ proprietary optical control technology to suppress heat input from sunlight and increase heat dissipation through thermal radiation*².

*2: A phenomenon in which heat from a heated object is carried as electromagnetic waves (light).
